A Wholesome Family Meal

I love cooking, but I also love spending time as a family, and I don’t want to spend all my days cooking and miss out on the family moments. This is why I chose to cook foods that are simple and nourishing, like a whole roaster chicken.

Cooking a whole roaster chicken in our home is so much more than just making a meal—it’s part of our rhythm, a simple way we slow down and connect as a family.

I love that I can take a few minutes during the day—when I have a quiet moment, or when I don’t, and my little kitchen helpers climb up to the counter to help—to season and prep the chicken. Then, into the oven it goes, slowly roasting while the rest of life happens. There’s no frantic rush at dinnertime, no panicked scramble at 7:30 PM, realizing supper isn’t ready, the kids still need to eat, and the kitchen is a disaster. Instead, I get to actually enjoy the evening with my family.

By the time we sit down to eat, there’s no stress—just the smell of a home-cooked meal filling the house and the comfort of gathering around the table. We get to talk, laugh, and hear about each other’s day without worrying about the clock ticking toward bedtime. It’s a meal that nourishes more than just our bodies—it nourishes our time together.

And the best part? This one chicken isn’t just for one meal. After dinner, I take the same chicken and turn it into something more—simmering the bones into a rich broth that will become tomorrow’s soup. Two meals, one simple prep, and a whole lot of time spent where it matters most.

This is why I love cooking a whole roaster. It’s not just about the food—it’s about slowing down, being present, and cherishing the little moments that make this life so sweet.
