FAQs

What’s your farming background?

Courtnee is a first-generation farmer, having grown up in rural Alberta. While she doesn’t have an agriculture background, her passion for farming comes from her love of cooking nourishing food for her family and her desire to know exactly where her food comes from. Corey grew up on his parents' Cow/Calf Ranch in Lac La Biche, where he gained solid experience in animal husbandry and the production side of a farm. While neither of us have a formal background in regenerative agriculture, we’re both deeply committed to learning and continually advancing our practices to ensure we are stewarding Gods creation while producing happy nutrient dense animals.

Where is your farm located?

We are located 1hr west of Edmonton near Evansburg, Alberta.

Are you certified organic? Do you give antibiotics or other medications?

No, we are not certified organic. However, we value transparency over certifications. We do everything to ensure our farming practices align with organic principles—Our pasture raised chicken feed contains no herbicides, pesticides, insecticides or synthetic chemicals. Our chickens do not receive any vaccinations, antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones. Certifications take a lot of time and money and don’t necessarily mean you’re getting the best product—Instead our mission is to be open and honest with you about how we raise our animals, and we believe that’s what matters most.

Do you give your animals hormones?

We do not. In Canada, no synthetic hormones are permitted by law to be given to chickens or hogs—Leach Family Farms’ meat included.

However, chicken and pork sold in grocery stores can be imported from other countries, in which case added hormones may have been used.

In Canada, hormones are permitted in beef cows; however we choose to raise hormone-free beef. It’s important to note that before an animal can be processed, it legally needs to have gone through a withdrawal period.

It’s important to note that all animals have natural hormones but Leach Family Farms chicken and beef are all free of added hormones. We never use growth hormones

What makes your chickens different from grocery store chicken?

We raise our chickens the way nature intended free range—on fresh pasture with plenty of space to roam. Unlike conventional grocery store chickens that are packed into crowded barns, our birds live in mobile chicken tractors, which allow us to move them to fresh pasture every single day. This keeps them in a clean, healthy environment, reduces disease risk, and gives them access to fresh air, sunshine, grass, and bugs—the way chickens were meant to live!

Because they have more space and a less stressful life, their meat is more flavorful, tender, and nutrient-dense. Stress impacts meat quality, and by ensuring our birds live in a calm, natural setting, we produce chicken that’s healthier for both you and the environment.

Our chickens are free-range but still protected from predators within their mobile shelters. They get the benefits of outdoor life—scratching, foraging, and soaking up the sun—without the risks of predators or extreme weather.

To ensure they are getting the best nutrition, we supplement their pasture diet with a high-quality, nutrient-rich feed that is free of corn, soy, and canola. While it isn’t certified organic, it is tested for glyphosate, herbicides, and pesticides to ensure it's clean and healthy. Even better, this feed is sourced from local Alberta farms, meaning we are keeping our money in our local economy and supporting other small-scale farmers just like us.

What is regenerative farming and rotational grazing?

Regenerative farming is all about restoring soil health, increasing biodiversity, and improving the land for future generations. Instead of depleting the soil, it helps rebuild it—creating healthier pastures, animals, and food.

A key part of this is rotational grazing, where animals are regularly moved to fresh pasture. This prevents overgrazing, improves soil fertility, while encouraging plant regrowth.

Our chickens live in mobile tractors, moving daily for clean pasture, fresh bugs, and natural forage, while their manure enriches the soil. Once we bring in cows, they’ll graze before the chickens working together in symbiosis naturally fertilizing and restoring the land.

This results in healthier animals, more nutritious food, and a farm that gives back to the land instead of taking from it!

Why is high quality meat important?

The meat you eat directly impacts your health, energy, and overall well-being. Grocery store meats often come from animals raised in crowded, stressful conditions, fed processed grains, and given antibiotics or hormones—leading to meat that’s lower in nutrients and higher in inflammatory fats.

At Leach Family Farms, our pasture-raised meats are clean, nutrient-dense, and free of harmful additives, giving your body the best fuel possible. The benefits include:

  • Higher in Omega-3s & Healthy Fats – Supports brain function, heart health, and reduces inflammation

  • No Antibiotics, No added Hormones, or Pesticide-Laden Feed – Lowers toxic load on your body and supports hormone balance

  • Packed with Vitamins & Minerals – More B vitamins, iron, zinc, and antioxidants for energy and immune support

  • Easier to Digest & Better for Gut Health – No hidden chemicals, supports a healthy gut microbiome

  • Raised the Way Nature Intended – Animals raised in low-stress environments produce cleaner, healthier meat

Choosing high-quality, pasture-raised meat means giving your body real nourishment, reducing inflammation, and feeling your best from the inside out!
